South Carolina is considering secession from the
Union. State rights, especially the right to conduct
commerce in self-appointed ways, are at stake.
Abolitionists from the North are demanding the
release of all human chattel.
Many provide pathways to freedom.
Tensions are rising.
These are the antebellum years . . . civil war is soon to arise.

A small town in western Virginia is to become the epicenter of an event that proves to be a prelude to the War Between the States. John Brown's target is the Federal Armory in Harpers Ferry. He and his band of revolutionaries are bent on raiding the armory to provide local slaves with a means of rising up against their owners. This raid is intended to be the springboard for uprisings throughout the south.
Brown's dream is not to be fulfilled.
